1. How can I file a Report?

Depending on the type of crime or incident, reports may be filed online, by phone, or in-person with an officer. If you are not sure which option is right for you, call dispatch at 209-538-5712 and a dispatcher will explain your options. Some crimes or incidents may require an in-person report be made due to documentation or paperwork requirements. 

Please understand that not all incidents are police matters and a dispatcher or officer may direct you to another agency or service. 

2. Do you provide fingerprinting or Live Scan?

The Ceres Police Department does not offer fingerprinting services., however, we do offer Live Scan services for a fee and by appointment only. Contact Records at 209-538-5714 to schedule an appointment. 

3. How do I get a copy of a report?

Reports may be picked up from Records. A $4.00 fee and a government issued ID are required to obtain a copy.. There is no fee for copies of Online Reports, however, a government issued ID is required to obtain the copy. 

Reports are often immediately releasable, however some reports require approval from court or a supervisor. 

Traffic Collision reports take at least ten (10) working days before being releasable. 

Reports are released in compliance with the Public Records Act.  If you have any questions about obtaining a report, contact Records at 209-538-5714. 

4. What should I do in a Non-Injury Traffic Collision?

If you were involved in a non-injury traffic collision that is not blocking traffic and all parties are still on scene, you need to exchange information with the other parties involved. Taking pictures of the damage is recommended. There are three key pieces of information to exchange, they are:

• Vehicle Information - License plate number, make, model, and color.
• Driver's Information - Name, Driver's License Number, Current Address,  and Phone Number,.
• Insurance Information - Insurance company and valid policy number.

If any of the involved vehicles are blocking traffic or information is not able to be exchanged, contact dispatch at 209-538-5712 to have an officer respond.
